Poetry As Remembrance and Inspiration

Poets Association to Honor Pearl Newton Rook.

Sharing the words of the late Pearl Newton Rook, writers from the Central NY Branch of the National League of American Pen Women  (NLAPW) will offer tribute on Saturday, Sept. 21.  The encomium to Rook will begin in the Historical Society Museum at 2 p.m. with the public invited to attend and comment.

After a life of great adventure and achievements, nationally recognized poet Pearl Newton Rook passed away on March 18, 2019, just a few days shy of her 96th birthday. Among her numerous accomplishments, Rook was an active member of the CNY Branch of NLAPW, an organization of professional women writers, artists, music composers, and allied arts professionals.

Rook left the world with many gifts, among them are her five published books of poetry, from which the CNY poets will read at the Historical Society Museum. The visiting poets will also offer a few of their own poems that reflect the spirit of Rook’s body of work.

Among the nationally and regionally recognized poets participating in the tribute are Nancy Dafoe, Mary Gardner, Janet Fagal, and Ellen McNeal. McNeal is a former CNY Branch member who is now living in South Carolina. The poets’ books will be available for viewing and purchase after the reading.
