John will speak to the topic, “Newark on the Erie Canal” at the museum on Thursday, Dec. 11th at 7:00 p.m.
This concludes our series of Erie Canal programs held in 2025 to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the opening of the Erie Canal.
The Newark-Arcadia Museum will be open Wednesday evenings, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. during July & August.
The new exhibit, “Low Bridge, Ev’rybody Down, Newark’s 200 Years on the Erie Canal” is now open! There are many amazing photos of the canal through the village of Newark, outstanding artwork, artifacts and much more.
Of course, the museum is open Saturdays, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. as usual.
The historic 1876 Marbletown Schoolhouse is also open Saturdays, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Located in the hamlet of Marbletown, just SE of Newark, the former District No. 5 country school closed in 1947. Come and see this great local treasure!
To get there: From Rt. 88 – S, take Silver Hill Rd. east about 1.5 miles.
Admission is free at both locations. For info: 315-331-6409.

The 30th annual Strawberry Social will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday, June 28nd from Noon to 3:00 PM on the N-AHS museum grounds at 120 High St, Newark.
Strawberry shortcakes can be enjoyed on the comfortable grounds of the museum. If bad weather arrives, we’ll move inside. The museum’s new exhibit featuring the canal will be on display, along with the always fascinating permanent exhibits.
Strawberry shortcake will sell for $6.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. We have take-out trays for people on the go. All profits support the works of the Historical Society.
Celebrate summer in the Finger Lakes by joining us and your neighbors for this fundraiser and experience the pleasure of local strawberries at their peak.
