2018 Historic Barn Tour

The 2nd Biennial Historic Barn Tour will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6th, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. It is self-guided and held rain or shine.

There will be five barns open for viewing, including three in the hamlet of Marbletown, and two on Rt. 88, south of Newark, all located in the town of Arcadia.

The historic Marbletown Schoolhouse will also be a part of the tour. Built in 1876, this was District No. 5, in use until 1947. Today, it is owned by the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society and open with regular hours July through Sept. Refreshments will be served. In addition, a portable restroom will be on site.

A special Hay Carrier demonstration presented by Gary & Karen Jones of Phelps will take place throughout the day at the Lockhart barn, 259 Rt. 88-S.  A quilt show will also be held at this site by the Rose City Quilters. At the Marbletown Schoolhouse, spinning wheel demonstrations will be held.

Tickets ($10 each) are in the form of a booklet, with a photo and information on each site.  Also included with the booklet is a $5 gift certificate (with the purchase of $10) from The Apple Shed in Fairville. They also serve lunches.

Ticket/booklets are available now at Newark Wegman’s service desk, the Newark Public Library circulation desk, the Newark-Arcadia Museum, and White Paw Books & Curiosities at 604 S. Main St. (Wed-Sat, 12-7 PM & Sun, 12-5 PM)  Tickets will be available the day of the tour at the museum (9 AM – 3 PM)

The N-AHS is pleased to present our 2nd barn tour. They are a familiar and important part of our countryside. See them while you can. We lose some every year.
