Fall Happenings

The Society has many things to offer in the weeks ahead.  Of course, there is the museum.  Have you seen its latest addition, the Browniekar?  If not, you owe it to yourself to view this excellent item from Newark’s past.

Coming up is a new type of fundraiser.  We’re offering a showing of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, a 1963 Stanly Kramer directed film that includes almost every famous comedian of that time in its cast.  A load of laughs is in store for you as these zany actors vie to find the hidden treasure, under the watchful eye of Spencer Tracy as the detective.

The show is being presented at the Ohmann Theatre, 65 William St, Lyons, NY on Wednesday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. All ticket proceeds will benefit the N-AHS. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $3 for students and free for kids 12-under. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.  The concessions revenue will go to the theatre to help offset operating costs.

On Saturday, October 12, we will offer this year’s edition of the Historic Cemetery Walk.  Join us at the Newark cemetery on N. Main St.  Two walks are scheduled; 1:00 – 2:30 and 3:00 – 4:30.  Parking will be across the street in the Graybill warehouse lot.  There will be a small attendance fee.

This year we will be trying something different.  Instead of actors in costume, our local historians will narrate the points of interest as the walk progresses.  The walk will begin at Nichols Memorial Chapel at the entry to the cemetery.  Points of interest along the way will include the mausoleum, the burial vault, a zinc grave marker, Potter’s Field, the G.A.R. plot and the sites of prominent Newark families.  It promises to be a fascinating exploration of Newark’s past.

And finally, we have for sale the 2025 N-AHS calendar.   This year’s theme is the Canal.  The calendar features 24 photos of the different aspects of the Erie/Barge canal throughout the ages.    online purchase link

It is the sixth N-AHS calendar, once again using archival pictures to commemorate Newark’s past.  The wall-calendar is both functional and a fascinating keepsake of Newark History.

Local pick-up is at the museum from 1 to 3 on Saturday.  Call 315-331-6409 to make other arrangements.  You may also purchase the calendars directly with cash or check at the museum.
