Browniekar Comes Home To Newark!

Recurrence theories tell us if we wait just long enough, items will return to their original state.  After 115 years, a beautifully restored Browniekar will be returning to its original hometown of Newark, the village where it was designed and manufactured.  This child’s car has an undeniable charm that will captivate auto enthusiasts, local history buffs, Newark residents and all our visitors for years to come.

We will be unveiling the Browniekar during a private donor reception and then it will be available for all to see during our Browniekar Open House.  Please stop in and see the N-AHS Browniekar on display in its new home at the Museum on Saturday, June 8th from 10am – 4pm.  Brownie desserts and refreshments will be available.

Sharon Leahy to Speak at Quarterly Meeting

Believed to be the first “horseless carriage” to pass through Newark

Join us on Thursday, June 13, at 7:00 p.m. as Sharon Leahy presents Early Automobilism in Newark at the Newark-Arcadia Museum.

At the turn of the century, Newark, N.Y. factored in the burgeoning transportation transformation.  Attendees will learn how early “horseless carriage” races, automobile clubs, and area automakers included Newark in the automobile craze.

A PowerPoint presentation will accompany Sharon’s lecture. This program will tie in perfectly with the new acquisition of the Browniekar!

Sharon is a member of N-AHS.  She has a BCA in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University and a M.A. in Historic Preservation from Savannah College of Art & Design.

Strawberry Social – June 22nd at Noon

This year the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society celebrates its 29th year of hosting our Strawberry Social.   We will serve up strawberry shortcake, made from locally grown berries and homemade biscuits, with ice cream and toppings on Saturday, June 22nd from noon until three.

The museum lawn at 120 High Street will be the site for our event and we serve shortcake “rain or shine”.  Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $2.00 for children.

Our doors will be open to the wonderful displays inside the museum as we invite friends and the community to join us for this delicious event.  Docents will be available to welcome you into the museum and answer your questions. There are always new items to see, especially our newest Browniekar exhibit!
