December Events

The holiday season is upon us.  Join us for some cheer on Sunday, December 2nd from noon to 3 PM as we celebrate with special events at both locations.  The Marbletown schoolhouse will have a bake sale and will host craft vendors.  Stop by and pick up a unique gift for that special person.

The museum will offer refreshments to those who visit. Come and enjoy the exhibits and decorations.

Please join us at 7 PM on Dec. 13th for our quarterly membership meeting.  Huron town historian Rosa Fox will give a presentation on James Madison Cosad.  James Madison Cosad (1810–1893) was a freethinker and farmer who in 1877 hosted the first meeting of what would become the New York Freethinkers Association.

There will be five barns open for viewing, including three in the hamlet of Marbletown, and two on Rt. 88, south of Newark, all located in the town of Arcadia.

The historic Marbletown Schoolhouse will also be a part of the tour. Built in 1876, this was District No. 5, in use until 1947. Today, it is owned by the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society and open with regular hours July through Sept. Refreshments will be served. In addition, a portable restroom will be on site.

A special Hay Carrier demonstration presented by Gary & Karen Jones of Phelps will take place throughout the day at the Lockhart barn, 259 Rt. 88-S.  A quilt show will also be held at this site by the Rose City Quilters. At the Marbletown Schoolhouse, spinning wheel demonstrations will be held.

Tickets ($10 each) are in the form of a booklet, with a photo and information on each site.  Also included with the booklet is a $5 gift certificate (with the purchase of $10) from The Apple Shed in Fairville. They also serve lunches.
