We are adding to our Gift Shop.  The above print (and note cards) are now available just in time for the holiday season along with the 2020 calendar, containing unique pictures of events on Newark streets from times gone by.  We have also added  purses and handbags handcrafted in Newark using local fabric, along with canal-themed T-shirts and memorabilia, framed art and more.  See the “Gift Shop” page for more details and ordering information.  We will soon update the page with more options for those of you who you live outside the Newark area.

The museum will be open special hours this Friday, Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. – noon. Call anytime for info: 315-331-6409

Don Hall To Present In December

We have a real treat for you at our quarterly meeting, 7 PM on Thursday, Dec  12th.

Well known Rochester-area speaker, Don Hall will present “The History of the Hamburger – Fast Food in America”.  You will find this one to be entertaining and informative!  Don’s presentations show his sense of humor and include plenty of light moments.

Don was for many years the Director of Rochester’s Strasenburgh Planetarium. He has presented talks from coast to coast, including at the Smithsonian Institution.  His many topics include Rochester history, antiques and art pottery.  Don also led tours at Rochester’s historic Mt. Hope Cemetery from 2006 – 2018.

Fees from his talks are donated to the Rochester Community Foundation’s “Donald S. Hall Fund” for historic preservation.

Society To Hold Holiday Events

The Society will be celebrating the holiday season with two upcoming events.

We will host a members and friends reception  on Wednesday, Dec. 4th from 6 to 9 PM.  Come raise a glass of cheer with us, enjoy the tasty treats and see the latest exhibits if you haven’t already.  A friendly gathering.

Then plan to join us at the  Annual Marbletown Schoolhouse Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 8th from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the historic one-room Marbletown Schoolhouse located at the corner of Marbletown and Miller Roads.  The Schoolhouse will  be decorated for the holidays and warmed by the cozy wood burning stove, with area craft vendors offering a wonderful variety of items perfect for gift giving.  We have returning vendors such as Old Thyme Spoon Jewelry and Loving Hands craft items, as well as several popular crafts such as unique bags and purses handcrafted from local  Hallagan fabric, locally made maple syrup, jewelry,  essential oil products and adorable children’s winter hats! And you won’t want to leave without purchasing a goodie or two from our Bake Sale. The 2020 N-AHS “Remembering Downtown” calendars will also be available for purchase.  So mark your calendars and stop by! Shop for that special gift, enjoy some holiday treats and experience Christmas in a One-Room Schoolhouse!

If you would like to donate baked good items for the Marbletown Schoolhouse Holiday Craft and Bake Sale, we would really appreciate it.  All proceeds go to support the N-AHS Marbletown Schoolhouse. Items can be dropped off at the Newark Museum Saturday, Dec. 7 from 1-3 p.m. or Sunday, Dec. 8 prior to the Open House at the Schoolhouse between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m.
